I was a loyal customer at Wendy's for over 3 years, and I don't believe in writing a negative review of a business without allowing them the opportunity to remedy the issue. Last week, I went to Wendy’s for a dip powder manicure & pedicure prior to going out of town for the weekend.
A little background: Of all the people who work at the salon, Wendy is the only one who does dip manicures. She's also the only one who does waxing, which can be very frustrating when she leaves in the middle of your manicure for 10 minutes to go do a brow wax. As you might imagine, it can be quite the wait when you're third in line for a dip manicure and there's multiple people stopping in for a brow wax. Which is why I try to avoid going after work, and this particular time I came mid-day during the work week.
When I arrived, Wendy was not there but her husband was filling in. He owns a hardwood flooring business and occasionally will come give an extra hand at the salon. I would be shocked if he is a licensed nail technician. I've had the unfortunate experience of sitting in his chair numerous times over the years. He usually just helps with soaking off polish or filing the nails (which usually leaves you with bloody cuticles as he files all of the skin surrounding the nail), but he always passes the reigns to Wendy when it's time to polish. Since she was gone picking up supples, he attempted to do the dip manicure. He completely botched it, entirely skipping the first step of the base white powder which makes the nail stronger. A couple hours after leaving the salon, my nail broke while unpacking my suitcase and over the next 3 days, every single one of my nails either broke off or cracked in half.
When I got back in town, I went back to have them fixed. When I arrived, I asked for Wendy and she was in the back doing a brow wax. She came out, and finished the gel manicure she was in the middle of. Finally, she came over and I explained that I needed my nails fixed because they were not done properly and broke only hours after leaving the salon a few days prior. She said she would fix them, but that I had to pay. When I tried explaining that weren’t done correctly and that's why they broke, she argued with me in front of the entire salon, raising her voice, blaming me that it was my fault for being too hard on my nails. Since she refused to offer any solution, I told her I was leaving and wouldn’t come back.
I shouldn’t be surprised by her behavior. I never went to Wendy’s because of the customer service- like when you have an appointment and end up waiting an hour along with the walk-ins. I went here because it was CHEAP. There are 6 other nail salons just on East Broadway. Trust me, there is absolutely nothing special about Wendy’s. Do yourself a favor, and walk down to D Luxe. A dip manicure costs $5 more, but you can actually make an appointment (that they stick to), they have a much larger selection of colors, the décor is pretty, clean, and bright, and get this --- they actually care about customer satisfaction! Immediately after leaving Wendy’s I walked over and they got me right in. During my manicure, a girl showed up to talk to my technician. She said “I got a dip manicure 2 weeks ago and 2 of the nails popped off.” The tech told her to have a seat and she would fix it once she was done with me. Wendy would’ve never offered to do that……
