I won free blowouts for a year for me and a friend and this review is about my 4th visit to Ellada Studio & Spa in Reston. On June 2nd, I booked the appointment and told the receptionist I was the contest winner for free blowouts for me and a friend and we wanted curls. This time the curls were produced using a curling iron instead of a round brush and pins/blow dryer. I tipped the stylist who did my hair and thanked her. I was leaving to go to my sister’s wedding and the owner told me I have to pay an extra $30 for each me and my friend for getting curls with the blowout. I told her no one set that expectation as I’ve never been charged extra with them even though I got curls every time I got a blowout via methods outside of a curling iron (which by the way took less time than the other two blowouts i’ve had). Then she tells me she’ll discount to $25 each and I say it’s still not fair that I’m being charged for something I was told was free for me and my friend. The daughter of the owner said the receptionist who I booked the appointment with was new and wouldn’t have known about the contest. How is that my problem as a customer?
I said I’m uncomfortable paying and she said she’s calling the police if I don’t pay (knowing it was my sister’s wedding and I was in a hurry). I said go ahead and call I’ll talk with the police because what you’re doing is not an ethical practice as a business. The whole situation was ridiculous and had escalated so much unnecessarily. I waited for the police to come but they never did. I was running more late for my sister’s wedding so I told her I’ll just pay the discounted $25 rate. She took my card and when I got my receipt they charged $60 for me and my friend instead of the $25 per person that was promised. I told her why $60 the mother said we’re charging you full price and the daughter said “you’re the cheapest person I know” out loud in front of everyone at the salon. I was shocked and so was everyone else at the salon including the girl who did my hair. I tried explaining the situation to my stylist and the owner stood in between us and said for her not to talk with me… so unprofessional. The daughter told me to sign the receipt and after doing so, she told me to show my ID to see if the signature matched. My friend was shocked and my husband came in and was appalled by what was going on. I left with so much anxiety for my sister’s wedding and rest assured I will not be going back there.

This place is amazing. So many talented and kind women walking around to offer opinions and help. The vibe was nice and the place was clean. They gave me wine and kept me smiling the whole time. I drive an hour to come to this salon. If that doesn’t show its worth I don’t know what does!

Kelly is a wonderful hair stylist. She offers good advice and always listens to what I'm aiming for style wise. She is great with haircuts and really shines when it comes to color processes. I won't go to anyone else.
