This School is awesome!! All the students were funny and nice and actually were normal and talked to you about normal life. out of the 3 schools I have been to they were the nicest and down to earth people I know. I got highlights and they turned out awesome their Cosmetology girls are great!!

First, the bad news. Yes, the building and facilities are old. But, they are clean and serviceable enough to be continually approved by the Knox County Health Department, so I'm OK with experiencing a little bit of the remaining eccentric history in Happy Holler. If you want "high-dollar atmosphere", go somewhere else, and rest assured- you will pay for it. Next, the good news: KIHD is a 3 generation family establishment, and many women (and men!) in Knoxville know a good deal when they see it. That's why we keep going back. The instructors are highly-skilled and experienced in every aspect of cosmetology. The students are there because they want to learn a valuable skill to go with the natural talent they have recognized in themselves. I respect people like that! I have found both students and instructors to be kind, cheerful, helpful, and more than competent. You'd have to flip through one of their textbooks to understand how hard those students work, and how much information they must absorb. If they don't "make the grade", they don't receive a license from the State of Tennessee. If the students fail, then their instructors have, by default, failed also. I have seen predominantly good attitudes and practices at KIHD. Most of the student and instructors seem to be properly motivated. Everyone has an "off day". (Including the patrons! Maybe especially the patrons!) Before you post a bad review, ask yourself if you carried a bad mood and a steaming mess of an over-processed head of hair into the school, and expected them to work miracles with your already-damaged hair? Did you insist on a process or a chemical which the experienced instructors strongly advised against? I, personally, have had only one "bad experience" at KIHD and that was over 20 years ago. And you know what? My hair grew out and I got over it! I consider KIHD to be one of the most satisfying experiences in Knoxville. That's why I keep going back. I gave a 4 out of 5 star rating because nothing is perfect. I don't expect it to be. The homeless situation in that area is unfortunate, but once I am inside the premises at KIHD, I feel perfectly safe. It would be a shame if the homeless problem caused one of Knoxville's oldest cosmetology schools to move or close. I am happy to affirm that I feel 100% percent better today than I did last week, because KIHD recently gave me one of the best perms I've ever had in my life! I am now sporting about 80% to 90% of the "perfect 'do" I was envisioning when I walked in last week! I call that a high success rate! Over the years, I have gone elsewhere, paid a lot more, and got a lot less satisfaction for my buck. I'll stick with KIHD!

To believe the lies on this padge without personally experiencing them first hand is shameful. In case you havent already guessed most of the complaints on this page are either old or they are from people who didnt like the outcome of their hair even though all instructors fairly warn you that if your hair is to damaged or they dont believe it will take you are getting this treatment at your own risk. This is a school not a salon all students are here to learn to come on this page and write such hateful reviews about STUDENTS is childish it does nothing but lower there self esteem. I have been a student here for 6 months and I will tell you personally this school is the best I have ever went to and I myself have tryed several schools. Please do not judge this school by a simple paragraph come in and find out for yourself. Take it from me you will not be disappointed and if you are then go some where else no one is going to your place of buisness and completly bashing it so please if you are leaving hateful comments here try calling us instead or coming back in I personally have never seen 1 person leave here unhappy or if they were didnt show it and has always been serviced again if there was a mistake free of charge.

Not a good choice for schools. they barely teach you the basics & then they check out. in a very rough part of town. a lot of hobos & drug addicts & prostitutes in the area. the school is very run down.Very unprofesional.
