On Friday, February 15th, 2019 I inquired about several homes listed on Zillow. An employee of Bill White Real Estate, Lori Shaw, responded and we made an appointment with her for Wednesday Feb. 20th at 8:30am with the understanding that my husband and I would be leaving from Colorado on Tuesday to be on time for the appointment, as we live about nine hours away.
I stayed in touch with her over the weekend to set up as many showings as possible and make the most out of our one day there. The entire time we were in contact, Lori was nothing but short and quite unpleasant, but I remained polite because I wanted to come and put two offers in so that my family could move forward. We had extended family living in our living room since they lost their home in Hurricane Michael in Panama City, FL this past October. So, even two fixer-uppers would’ve been fine. We run a property management company and have experience with remodeling.
It wasn’t until we were about 4 hours away from home on Tuesday, on our way to Independence in a rental vehicle, that Lori suddenly messaged and said, “Unless I have proof of funds, I will not show”.
Now, it would’ve been one thing if she would’ve been more thorough and asked for this before we left Colorado Springs, but that was not the case. It felt as if she purposely waited until she knew that we were on the road, which she did know because I informed her, then decided to bring that up. Knowing that we didn’t have that proof because we were scheduled to close on our home sale on February 28th, 2019, we turned around at the next available exit. We did not have the time or money to waste if we no longer had an appointment. We would not have rented the car and headed that way if we had that information ahead of time. Also, had we known ahead of time, we might have been able to get some sort of financial verification from our buyers showing that they were purchasing our home and had already given us a deposit and signed a contract. But that is something that I should have been told in advance so that I could get it before leaving.
In addition to the issue listed above, Lori was quite rude and accused me of refusing to provide her with information regarding our budget, which was absolutely uncalled for. I did indeed answer her questions, she just must have overlooked the reply with those answers in it. I even tried telling her that she overlooked that info. Just so there was no confusion regarding these matters, I sent a letter that included printed screen shots of my entire conversation with Lori Shaw.
As someone who represents Bill White Realty, she certainly does not pride herself on “treating each client like part of the family” like it says on their company website. We aren’t aware of whether or not Ms. Shaw saved us from making a huge mistake, however, one thing is certain. If Ms. Shaw is an example of how Bill White Realty operates, neither my company nor any of our contacts will ever consider doing business there again. We fully expected to be reimbursed for our expenses on behalf of Lori Shaw, as we used our company time to make the trip and were out the rental car money, however, we were not even contacted back in any way to try and fix this situation. We even provided our receipts so that there would be no question as to the amount of money we were out.
I do not recommend Bill White Real Estate.
