My experience with Cut Ups was always a wonderful one. My mother had gotten her hair cut every two weeks at cut ups and we even got massages when they started offering them there. It was always a wonderful experience.
However recently I returned to Cut ups to get a trim when I my whole view of this establishment changed. I was sitting and waiting for a chance to talk with the receptionist to schedule an appointment when a woman walked in asking if someone could cut her hair for her. She was an African American woman and she said she just needed a side cut and a shave on the one side. Nothing special done.
It took the receptionist over 10 minutes of running around before she found someone who did African American hair...I'm sorry...Since when was that a problem?!
Isn't hair, hair? The only difference is Texture which you learn in Cosmetology school. So why on earth would you hire stylists that cannot service everyone?
But wait ladies and gentlemen it gets better! When she did find someone who could do this woman's hair she said that the stylist would need to schedule a consultation to do her hair.
Yes...you read right. A Consultation. To do a simple cut. Not even a color or a perm or a relaxer. A. Cut.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life.
Don't get me wrong. I understand that African American hair, even Asian, hair is different, but the fact that they needed a consultation for a cut just blew me away. You are a stylist you should know how to handle everyone's hair, not just Caucasian hair.
Not only has this establishment lost my respect, but it has also lost my trust. If you don't know the difference between different textures and how to handle it then I will never trust you with my hair again.
