Long review, but (I think) worth the read...
I have never publicly shamed a business in my life— but I had such an unsettling experience at Lovely Nails Dulles Landing yesterday evening I can’t not share.
A friend and I go to Lovely Nails every two weeks to have our nails done— religiously. Over the years, we have literally spent thousands of dollars at this salon. We always make appointments with the same two technicians.
A couple of weeks ago, my technician went to Vietnam to visit her family. We all knew this was going to happen, we are all thrilled for her. For the months leading up to this trip, I talked about who I was going to make appointments with in her absence. There is another technician there that I have used a couple of times when my normal lady was out and I loved her just as well.
Tuesday evening I called and made the appointments for Wednesday for my friend and I— just as we always do. We arrived at the salon and were chatting and selecting colors when evidently the salon owner, Amy, berated my friends technician because she believed that I was a “walk-in” and that my friends technician had just “assigned me” to her friend.
We sat down to start our pedicures and noticed that my friends technician was crying. Crying actually really doesn’t begin to articulate what was happening— sobbing is more accurate. We tried to ask what was wrong and she just cried harder, having to excuse herself multiple times. Finally I asked my technician what was happening and she explained that Amy had accused my friends technician of giving me to her and didn’t understand that I called and made appointments and specifically requested the technician I had. She even pointed out that two weeks before when my normal lady was about to leave for Vietnam I had stopped her and said “see you in two weeks!” because my plan was always to use her in my normal technicians absence.
Amy came back inside the salon and I tried to clear up the misunderstanding. She immediately became combative and started screaming at me. I calmly said “Amy, I am so sorry for the misunderstanding— I called and specifically made an appointment for this technician.” She then screamed “yes I know you always go to (my normal technician) but she is away so you cannot just walk in and (my friends technician) give you to who she chooses. This is my salon!”
The entire experience was awful and actually resulted in my friends technician quitting. I don’t blame her. It’s a shame, though, because she has been there for years and was absolutely adored. But, no one deserves to be treated that way— not an employee, not a customer.
If Amy had acknowledged the mistake and apologized I would feel differently— but she didn’t. I have no intention of continuing to patronize an establishment with an owner that treats both her staff and customers so poorly. That’s not good business. That’s not good humanity.

I have been coming here since they opened over 4 years ago and haven’t gone anywhere else since I found it. Everyone is very nice here and Amy has done my nails many times and I have never had any issues. I think she is great.

I went for a gel removal on my real nails, on my left hand my nails were significantly longer than my right hand. I asked the tech to please even them out and shape them coffin style. She made my left hand nails way shorter than my right hand and not coffin shape at all! The overall manicure is very sloppy, doesn't even look like a I got my nails done at a salon. This is why I do my own nails at home...

There was no wait and they took me right away. Amy was my nail tech who was super sweet and made sure she asked if my nails were the way I wanted them during the process. My nails look great and every one was super nice!

Amy was very nice, the entire time she did my nails she was asking me if I was okay and if I liked what my nails looked like during the whole process. My nails turned out amazing!!! Thank you so much Amy.
