Definitely zero stars. Don't get your hair done here!!! Go to Capture around the corner instead. A friend recommended Joe at the Maine room and I paid $55 for a cut that took maybe 2 minutes. My hair was washed but not conditioned. The wash took literally less than a minute. No head massage or even scalp scrub. The cut was terrible and messy. When I told Joe what I wanted he completely disregarded my desires saying he has his own vision for my hair and to trust him. Now I'm having to get my hair cut all over again to fix the horrible uneven job that was done. Also it's very innapropriate and unprofessional for stylists to be taking personal phone calls constantly while working on a paying client. After telling Joe that I did not like the result he blew it in a wild fashion and asked how I liked it then. I told him I did not want it messy as I had said before. I wanted it straight. He then called another stylist over to "help him out". She proceeded to straighten my hair. It turns out he didn't want to straighten it because it was completely uneven. I'm so disappointed and I wish I had the courage to walk away without paying for the terrible experience.

I started going to The Mane Room and getting my hair cut by Joe back in 2014 when I was still a student at Yale. At the time I didn't even know what I wanted done with my hair, I just wanted it to "look better." Joe has an excellent vision for what looks good on each person and thus gave me some amazing recommendations for potential styles that I'm still using today. Every cut I have ever gotten from Joe is excellent, and if you need a quick touch-up or styling for a date or performance, he will always help you out. Joe also works quickly. Don't get me wrong, he will give you all the attention you need during your service, but he also has the skills and expertise to do the job efficiently. Despite having lived in 4 different cities since I graduated, I always make time to go see Joe when I'm in New Haven because I can't find a better haircut anywhere else. And his price is extremely reasonable. I recommend Joe at the Mane Room very enthusiastically!

Lady did an excellent job on my pedi and was very friendly so she gets 5 stars. Price was 2x what I pay at my normal place, but I was on a trip and it was convenient. So I give price a 3.5. The place was clean.

I asked for waxing and the threading specialist intentionally ignored my request and tried to use threading instead (this is the second time). Threading is more painful for me which is why I requested a quick wax. Both times I have come here for wax the employee seats me and then starts using her threads on me. She has made me very uncomfortable, having to stop her and insist that she use wax. While waxing me, she lectured me on why threading is better. In the end she claimed there were hairs the wax did not get and could she get them with her threads? I reluctantly allowed her to. In the end, I had a red face and three pimples on my skin the next day that are still visible (I get waxed at the European Wax Center and Salon J without any visible skin irritation). When this salon was called Jobella this same employee had to take over briefly during my pedicure when my technician was helping another customer and she said negative comments about my feet, asked how often I get pedicures and stated that I needed to clean them. Why even two stars? They give a student discount. Additionally, I called two days in advance to book a massage (for my birthday) and they never picked up the phone, and no one called me back when I left a message. Recently I called for an appointment for gel nails, when they finally called me back they said their one employee who can do gel was not in and that they would call me back when they knew her schedule. A couple of days later... I have stopped waiting on that return phone call.

Three and a half stars, if there were halves -
I had an extraction only facial done, which I have mixed feelings about.
The aesthetician was very sweet, and gentle - the facial massages, exfoliation, mask, etc, felt great - and she seemed knowledgable, however, I'm a bit frustrated as the main reason I came in (extraction) was not well done - when I came home after my facial there were still quite a few whiteheads and clogged pores, particularly in the problem areas which I had asked her to address. It seems she wasn't quite aggressive or perhaps detail oriented enough.
Furthermore, I ended up paying more than had been quoted to me -
If I were to return it would likely be for a mini-facial only, as my skin does feel very clean, refreshed and even, but I will definitely go elsewhere to treat blackhead, whitehead and blemish extraction / removals.
