If I could give this review 0 stars I would. I went here to support a friend who is a student, and I had a lovely experience with her and one of the female instructors. Very thorough and listened very carefully to what I preferred. Then Mario came up and started hacking away without listening to me. He even said (supposedly joking) that "she's just going to be quiet and love what I give her, because she's about to get a $200 haircut" well, it's been 24 hours and I've literally spent 3 solid hours of that crying. Every time I look in the mirror I feel physically ill. I look like a bad 90's Rachel haircut, except I have super thick unruly frizzy hair (which if he had paid attention to me as a person he would have known) and not stick straight smooth hair-- so I look even worse. The shortest weird little sprigs he left me with barely touch the tip of my nose while the majority of my hair hits mid breast. It’s like I have two completely different length hair cuts. Long bob in the front, long long hair in the back. It took me nearly 2.5 years to grow my hair to a length I wanted, and because of the lady mullet he gave me, I won't see anything near that again for another 3 years or so. I'm completely devastated.

TLDR: Aveda Institute has the most passionate, customer-centric stylists I have ever encountered, and their stylist Kate S is indeed one of the best! Aveda Institute is always a pleasure to visit, and I've loved the service each and every time I've come here. Yesterday, I had the absolute best haircut experience -- not just at Aveda, but overall. I've been to dozens of different salons in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Texas, and I typically pay $60, $70, even $80 for the standard wash-cut-and-style service, and none of those previous experiences measures up with the service offered to me by Kate S at Aveda. I have damaged, frizzy hair that I'm pretty self-conscious about, and Kate had me leaving the salon a new, beautiful person, and for a third of the price I am used to paying. She is such a lovely person to talk to -- so genuine, so passionate about her work, so eager to make people feel better about themselves. She was very considerate and gentle, and very insightful, too! When I came in asking for a conditioning treatment, she asked me some questions about my hair and finally suggested a damage-control treatment instead, which would add proteins to my hair instead of just moisture. The treatments were the same price, but still, Kate wanted to make sure she was doing the best she could for my hair. I asked her for some tips and suggestions all throughout the haircut, and she gave me some great recommendations and simple tricks to keep my hair strong. I cannot recommend her enough, and she is a paragon of the students at the institute. I wish all hairstylists mirrored her sincerity and her aptitude, for she is absolutely phenomenal! I can't wait to visit her for my next cut or style!

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been to other Aveda Institutes before and always had an amazing experience, this was completely different. I came in for a long reverse bob.. when you go to a school like this you tell the person doing your hair what you want, they come up with a game plan, and then they get the instructor and go over everything to make sure they are confident before starting. Not the case at this school. The instructor came over and said "you got this?" And the girl said "yeah". I just assumed because this girl was graduating in three weeks maybe she did have it..... She did not. My hair is now all the same length 4 inches shorter then I wanted. This place is not well run and they are not training these stylist properly.

I was considering enrolling here until after my tour. I was first in contact with a woman named Jacey who reached out to me personally to schedule a tour and offered a ton of information, I was super excited to tour and see where I would be learning. She was very personable over the phone, I figured she would be the one I was meeting with since she also emailed me confirmation. I get to the school and am greeted by one of the students who asks me to fill out a form and then has me sit in a separate waiting room for like 20 minutes. Rome “the financial aid advisor” was very stiff and asked me lots of the same questions,I felt like I was interviewing for a job instead of getting information on THEIR school. He briefing showed me the campus and seemed annoyed when I asked questions about the program. It honestly felt like an interrogation on why I would chose Aveda. The response time from Rome for questions after the tour was super slow. I will note that the students I did see did not look happy to be there, I’ll be taking my money elsewhere. Thanks Google

The Master Student who did my hair was personable and enthusiastic, but she didn't really take my preferences into account. For example, I told her I almost never wear any "product" in my hair; the rare times I do, it's just one. She put three products in my hair, and would've put another if I hadn't stopped her. I never wear make-up, but as I was about to pay, she came up to and tried to put lip color on me (I didn't allow her). I told her I didn't want much of my medium-length hair cut (i.e., keep as long as possible) and she promised she was going to be "very conservative" in the amount she cut. I expressed concern after a while, and she said not to worry, she'd only cut 2 or 3 inches. Well, I asked for an exact number, and it turned out she cut more than 5 inches. I know I'm partly to blame -- I should've spoken up sooner, and louder, but she was so nice. I knew her intentions were good -- she really wanted me to look nice -- so it felt churlish to stop her. Yes, my bad. And I think the haircut looks good (after washing out all of the product and allowing it to air dry). I just think she should pay more attention to what the client say/presents as.
