I bought a 250.00 gift card months ago. Every time I've gone for a service, their computer had issues processing payment. I had to cancel an appointment (or they had to cancel my appointment one time because of this). There is always some issue with them every time I go, and honestly, their treatments aren't really up to standard. I don' t know how they survive. Would not recommend them at all

I had an issue with the hair salon next door that goes under the name Hair Studio or Salon Basix. The owner (who this complaint is about) owns both businesses (the salon and Serene), so why not let you guys know how the business runs on the other side? My boyfriend surprised me with a gift card to Hair Studio LDK. I already have an amazing hair girl so when I went to return it, (first they were cool, but said I needed my bf's card to refund the credit), now they told me refunds were against store policy. There are no signs anywhere, and there is no refund policy on the card. According to California Civil Code 1749.5. "2(b) (1) Any gift certificate sold after January 1, 1997, is redeemable in cash for its cash value, or subject to replacement with a new gift certificate at no cost to the purchaser or holder... (2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), any gift certificate with a cash value of less than ten dollars ($10) is redeemable in cash for its cash value" (leginfo.legislature.ca.g....). I spoke with the owner, Kay on the phone and all she told me was no, that it was against store policy, and that I should put myself in her shoes. I asked her to put herself in my shoes; if a business wont treat me like a human being, what makes me think that I would ever want that business doing a service on me? If their business practices work only to protect themselves, and not the people they cater to, then what would I expect of their services? I asked Kay what I should do with the card then? She replied that I should give it to someone. Why would I give a gift card to someone when I believe the business does not treat people well, and does not take care of their customers (especially as a customer service based industry)? Her only reply was no, it was against store policy. So, I have asked to set up a meeting with her, to really try to understand how her keeping my $35 is ethical. Considering, I wont be using her services, (based purely off of how her business is ran) and there is no merchandise for me to purchase in the store with my gift card. I would love to find a resolution for this problem and this business practice that doesn't seem to make sense when your main job is to treat people with dignity and respect. Hence you build clientele and they keep coming back. Not through doing shady business deals with well-meaning boyfriends. It is about the principle. I have yet to hear back from Kay, although now, when I do call (they know my number), no one seems to like to answer. That's another excellent business practice, yes, ignore me, the customer.
